What is happening with Google Chrome and NPAPI and PPAPI Flash Plugins?

You may find that Google Chrome seems to be ‘banning Flash Player’ as of v45 of the Chrome Browser.

What is in fact happening is that there were 2 versions of the Flash Plugin shipping with Chrome, the NPAPI and PPAPI versions.  Chrome is not going to allow the earlier NPAPI as of the release v45 of the browser.

If you are a Connect Hosted customer, you do not need to do anything.  The Adobe Connect v9.4 Meeting Add-in is already compatible with the later PPAPI Flash Plugin.

If you are an Connect On-Premise customer you can become compatible with an upgrade to Adobe Connect v9.4.  If you are not in a position to upgrade to v9.4 then Adobe has created patches that will allow you to use your deployment with Chrome v45.

Without updating your Connect deployment at all, you have some of other options:

  • Use Connect without the Connect Meeting Add-in (which disables the ability to screen-share)
  • Disable the Chrome Auto-Update so that you stay on the earlier (compatible) version of Chrome
  • Use another browser

Detailed instructions for on-premise deployments that include the patches, compatibility and options can be found in the Adobe Blog Post here:
