Connect 9.2 Meeting Add-in on Safari

When you start Connect 9.2 using the Safari browser, you may initially see your meeting room start inside of the browser window.  This happens even if you have already installed the Connect Meeting Add-in.

Workarounds – Follow the instructions below, use Connect in the browser window (no Meeitng Add-in so no ability to share your screen) or use another browser rather than Safari.

Important – This is not going to affect participants, presenters of hosts *unless* they want to share their screens.  If you do not need to share your screen you can ignore the options below.

If the Add-in is not installed, you will likely try to install it from the ‘Help’ option in your Connect Meeting Room and you will potentially see the message below in Figure 1.

The ‘Learn More’ link will take you here.

This is happening because the default Safari browser security settings limit the use of all of the rich-media/Flash Player functionality (it defaults to ‘Safe Mode’).  This will stop you being able to use the Connect Meeting Add-in so the meeitng opens in the browser.

To change this setting and allow the Connect Meeting Add-in to function (so that you can share your screen), open the Safari Preferences and select ‘Security’, then select  ‘Manage Website Settings’ (Figure 2).

From the next dialogue box select ‘Adobe Flash Player’ on the left-side (this is often already selected), in the right-side list, highlight the Adobe Connect line and select the drop-down menu (it should already say ‘Allow’) and select ‘Run in Unsafe Mode’ and then ‘Trust’ (Figure 3).  Click ‘Done’ to close the preferences pane.

Important – You will need to reload the Connect Meeting window or close the instance and re-enter the meeting room for the change to take effect.  If this does not work, restart the bowser and try again.  You should now see the Meeting Room open in it’s own Window using the Connect Meeting Add-in.
