How large are offline Connect Recordings?

If you convert a Connect Recording to an offline format you will of course lose the ‘intelligence’ of the recording.  The relative sizes and data use by time for offline options are below.


Note that I just used the default settings in the ‘Any DVD Converter Professional’ tool for iPad and iPhone for the mp4 conversions, I suspect these could be optimized, but then again these are typically far larger


The most efficient format by far is the basic Connect recording, even considering that the recording itself did not benefit from the considerable caching efficiencies Connect will offer for PPT slides etc. 


I will add the data for Connect Desktop when it is able to successfully download Connect 8 recordings (that is not working as of the date of writing this post)

The recording is primarily screen sharing so the largest (least efficient) method of using Connect, no caching of content such as PPT)

Time – 19 minutes
Size – 59mb
Mb per minute – 3.11mb/min
Mb per hour – 186mb/hour

Offline copy iPad format (‘flat’ mp4):
Time – 19 minutes
Size – 122mb
Mb per minute – 6.42mb/min
Mb per hour – 385mb/hour

Offline copy iPhone format (‘flat’ mp4):
Time – 19 minutes
Size – 59mb
Mb per minute – 3.11mb/min
Mb per hour – 186mb/hour
